⁸ Then an argument broke out among them about which of them should be regarded as the greatest.

⁹ He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them and those in authority over them are addressed as 'Benefactors';

but among you it shall not be so. Rather, let the greatest among you be as the youngest, and the leader as the servant.

27

For who is greater: the one seated at table or the one who serves? Is it not the one seated at table? I am among you as the one who serves.

28

It is you who have stood by me in my trials;

29

and I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred one on me,

30

that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

After he left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. ¹⁶ Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her.

39

He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them.

40

At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.

41

¹⁷ And demons also came out from many, shouting, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Messiah.

Chapter 5 DUTY TO LIVE IN THE LIGHT

So be imitators of God, ¹ as beloved children,

2

and live in love, as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma.

3

Immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is fitting among holy ones,

4

no obscenity or silly or suggestive talk, which is out of place, but instead, thanksgiving.

5

Be sure of this, that no immoral or impure or greedy person, that is, an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
